Chosen as their 2024 Longwood Gardens Community Read book, Classic Movie Night will feature the 1949 film adaptation of “The Secret Garden”. Join us in the Burke Meeting Room, pull up a comfy chair, grab some popped corn and enjoy!

Orphaned Mary Lennox (Margaret O'Brien) arrives at the Yorkshire mansion of her mysterious Uncle Craven (Herbert Marshall). Bitter and confused after the death of her parents, she clashes with the other residents of the estate, including the surly housekeeper (Gladys Cooper), the giggling maid (Elsa Lanchester) and Craven's invalid son (Dean Stockwell). After discovering a key to a secret garden, Mary seeks the means to heal herself and the other inhabitants of the Craven household.

This event is a Longwood Gardens Community Read Event. Longwood Gardens’ Community Read is an award-winning program uniquely envisioned as a collaborative effort between the Gardens and the community to encourage reading for pleasure and to start a conversation surrounding gardens, plants, or nature. A limited number of One Day Passes for 4 to Longwood Gardens will be given away at this event.
